Abstract

A computerised dyslexia screener-assessment suite was evaluated during a twenty four month trial as part of a collaborative project between three UK universities on the learning support services for students with disabilities or specific learning difficulties. The results from the initial screener (QuickScan) were compared with the outcome of the main assessment (StudyScan) and with educational psychologists' assessments for students at one of the universities. Students and learning support services staff were invited to comment on the use of the computerised suite during the study. As this trial coincided with the introduction of the system to the university and there were attendant teething difficulties, the invitation to comment was repeated with different users a year later. A subset of the students also experienced face-to-face screening tests (Bangor Dyslexia Test, Dyslexia Adult Screening Test). Possible screener and assessment models are discussed and the implications of attrition for a study of this nature are examined.
