Abstract
Dyslexia (dys = difficulty, lexia = words) is seen by many as a disability. I would suggest that it is simply a natural difference. The CONtext... The acquisition of basic literacy skills does not accurately reflect an individual's intelligence. The way in which most curriculums are taught automatically puts dyslexics at a disadvantage Reshaping the future: Finding and focusing on strengths rather than singly attempting to patch up areas of weakness is what educationists and policy makers should be focusing in upon, especially in the first instance. The majority of dyslexics self-confidence and emotional equilibrium are often adversely affected during their time at school. For too long the dyslexic has been forced to adapt to how the system teaches rather than be supported to learn in a way that plays to their visual or conceptual strengths. Statistics indicate an over proportionate amount of dyslexics in the Criminal Justice System and in the homeless figures. The majority of dyslexics are failed by an Education System that starts its work on what the dyslexic cannot do rather than what it can do. Visual representation of ideas: How we might redress this imbalance? I will explain the above observations in a visual way by using animation & performance video alongside OHP presentation thus practising what I preach.
