The troublesome (b), (d) and (p) letters of the alphabet

Jim Ingle

Dover, Kent

Abstract

This 'paper', a short one, concerns itself with the problem some people have with the sticks or stems, as might be called, of the (b), (d) and (p) letters of the alphabet. I have designed a simple, monogrammatic symbol, that once becoming a mind-picture should completely eliminate the problem some people have (myself included) with these troublesome letters of the alphabet. The problems caused by dyslexia are well known. It has many facets, which can be identified and attended to if we have the desire and determination to do so. For the individual, whose mind picture this is, identification is best achieved by adopting an organised approach, with advisably either of the letters (b) or (d), once chosen, being consistently used as the first step. This monogrammatic symbol of mine encompasses seven clearly defined letters of the alphabet. It also can help the formation of a complete alphabet, especially where learning difficulties is concerned.
