Abstract

Giving expert help and recommendations to a community and on a national basis about the assessment, training and accommodations for dyslexic students in school and working life. Summary Uppsala Dyslexia Centre is working with children and adults with dyslexic problems. We are a resource centre for the county of Uppsala and Sweden for schools and working life organisations that come into contact with dyslexic students. The objectives of our education program are to help students to acquire solid reading and writing and mathematical skills and to develop strategies for learning and study skills. We also help the students to develop strong skills in oral expression for professional as well as personal situations, and to develop knowledge about his/her strengths and personal learning style (metacognition). We also aim to improve linguistic awareness and to encourage student initiative and responsibility in order to improve self confidence and self-image. An important part of our program is also to develop and give opportunity to express creative talents in art and drama.
